Water temperature…
Mbanza-Ngungu, formerly known as Thysville, is a major city in the Kongo Central province, situated at an altitude of approximately 900 meters above sea level. This elevation provides a cooler and more temperate climate compared to the humid lowlands, making it a favored residential area since colonial times. The city is a pivotal hub on the Matadi-Kinshasa railway and hosts the primary maintenance workshops for locomotives and rolling stock. Geographically, the region is famous for its extensive cave systems, which are home to rare blind cavefish (Caecobarbus geertsii), a species unique to this area. Mbanza-Ngungu is also a significant agricultural center, supplying the capital city of Kinshasa with fresh fruits and vegetables. Historically, the town served as a military base and administrative center. The combination of industrial importance due to the railway and the natural beauty of the surrounding hills makes it a multi-faceted location. It is also well-regarded for its educational institutions and proximity to the botanical gardens of Kisantu.
