Sisak Oil Refinery (Croatia)

Weather…

The Sisak Oil Refinery is one of the two major refineries in Croatia and is owned by the state energy group INA. It was founded in 1927 by the Shell Group and for decades played a central role in supplying the country with fuels. The refinery is strategically located at the confluence of the Sava and Kupa rivers, facilitating the transport of crude oil and finished products by water. Throughout its history, it survived severe destruction during World War II and the Croatian War of Independence. Today, the facility is undergoing a profound transformation process, as traditional oil processing is being scaled back in favor of more sustainable projects such as a biorefinery and solar power plants. This change is part of efforts to minimize environmental impacts in the densely populated Sisak region. Despite the reduction in processing capacities, the site remains a vital logistical hub for the Central European pipeline network.
