Sisak Old Bridge (Croatia)

Weather…

The Old Bridge in Sisak, locally known as 'Stari most', is an outstanding monument of Croatian civil engineering and a landmark of the city. Built between 1928 and 1934, it spans the Kupa River at a strategic location used for crossing since ancient Roman times. The bridge was designed by the esteemed engineer Milivoj Frković to replace an aging wooden structure that had become insufficient for modern needs. Its unique aesthetic comes from the masterful combination of red brick and solid stone, giving the bridge a monumental yet warm appearance. Measuring over 150 meters in length, the structure features seven arches that harmonize perfectly with the surrounding riverbanks. Although damaged during World War II, it was carefully restored to its original design. Today, it remains a protected cultural heritage site, representing the architectural and industrial transition of Sisak during the early 20th century.
