Oršić Castle Gornja Stubica

Oršić Castle in Gornja Stubica is a magnificent Baroque manor built in 1756 by Count Krsto Oršić on the site of a former medieval fortress. The castle features a classic U-shaped floor plan and an elegant facade, typical of 18th-century noble architecture in northern Croatia. A highlight of the interior is the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier, which contains well-preserved wall paintings and an original altar. Since 1973, the castle has housed the Museum of the Peasant Revolt, commemorating the historic 1573 uprising led by Matija Gubec against feudal oppression. The museum displays a wide range of weapons, documents, and artworks from the period, providing insight into the social dynamics of the time. The castle is surrounded by a large landscaped park, which also features the monumental sculpture of Matija Gubec by Antun Augustinčić.
