Getting there
The forested mountain located directly above Zagreb is exceptionally easy to access. Visitors can effortlessly travel by car, using the city's public buses, or most conveniently via the modern cable car that goes directly up to the mountain's summit.
Best season
The park is a truly magnificent year-round destination. In summer, the deep forests offer cool shade to city dwellers, autumn brings brilliant foliage colors, and in winter, the snowy slopes firmly attract countless winter sports enthusiasts from the capital.
Terrain & paths
The natural area widely impresses with a dense network of well-maintained hiking trails meandering through expansive beech and oak forests. The inclines vary smoothly from gentle walking paths to noticeably steeper ascents toward ancient medieval fortresses.
What to bring
Because many trails are extremely well developed, comfortable sneakers or light hiking shoes are very often completely sufficient. However, bringing a jacket is always advisable when visiting the cooler caves or facing strong winds directly at the summit.
Parking
There are numerous parking lots at the base of various ascent routes, as well as large parking areas squarely on the mountain plateau. On beautiful weekends, however, these can fill up surprisingly quickly due to the massive influx of arriving locals.
Safety
The mountain is widely considered extremely safe and remarkably family-friendly. Hikers should, however, watch out for slippery trails during tricky winter conditions and remain continuously vigilant in summer due to the many cyclists on shared path sections.

Visitors usually spend anywhere between a half and a full day exploring here. From a very brief walk followed by a cozy mountain hut visit to highly extensive explorations of the medieval fortresses, the duration can be shaped with total flexibility.
