Drvenik is a scenic coastal town on the Makarska Riviera, split into two main bays: Gornja Vala and Donja Vala. Donja Vala is widely known as the primary ferry terminal connecting the mainland to Sućuraj on Hvar island, making it a bustling hub during the summer. Gornja Vala, on the other hand, features a more peaceful setting with extensive pebble beaches shaded by old pine trees. The town's history dates back to the 13th century, with the remains of the old village and a 17th-century fortress still visible on the cliffs above. The 15th-century Gothic Church of St. George (later redesigned in Baroque style) is the most significant historical monument in the area. Drvenik is an excellent destination for active travelers, offering marked hiking trails into the Rilić mountain range and pristine waters good for snorkeling and exploring the diverse Adriatic marine life.
