Zavojane is located on the northern slopes of the imposing Biokovo mountain range and is a prime example of the architecture of the Dalmatian Zagora. The village consists of several hamlets with impressive stone houses featuring massive walls and small windows that once provided protection against the cold winter winds of the mountains. St. Peter's Church (Sveti Petar) is the spiritual center and a prominent landmark of the place. The location of Zavojane is handy for nature lovers and hikers. Numerous marked trails lead from here into the heights of the Biokovo National Park, where rare plant species can be discovered and golden eagles can be observed. The air here is exceptionally pure, and the silence is only interrupted by the ringing of sheep bells. Despite its secluded location, the Makarska Riviera and its beaches are quickly accessible through the Sveti Ilija tunnel. In Zavojane, agriculture is still practiced in the traditional way. The region is famous for its medicinal herbs, from which honey and schnapps are made. Visitors can experience the hospitality of the locals and taste dishes such as lamb on a spit or under the bell. Zavojane is the excellent place to get to know the raw but hearty life in the Dalmatian hinterland and enjoy the majestic mountain world.
