Dolisie, formerly known as Loubomo, is the third-largest city in the Republic of the Congo and a vital transportation hub in the country's southwest. Located in the Niari Department, the city owes its growth to its strategic position on the Congo-Ocean Railway (CFCO) line connecting Brazzaville to Pointe-Noire. It was founded in 1934 and named after Albert Dolisie, an associate of the explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza. Dolisie serves as a major commercial center for regional agricultural products, including timber, cocoa, and coffee. The surrounding landscape is defined by the fertile Niari River valley and the nearby Mayombe Mountains, providing the city with a scenic backdrop. In recent decades, the city has evolved into a significant educational center and plays a central role in regional administration. Its architecture is largely functional but still displays the influence of mid-20th-century French urban planning in its older districts.
