The Old Boundji Mission in northern Republic of the Congo is one of the nation's most historically significant Catholic outposts. Founded in 1900 by the French clergyman Prosper Philippe Augouard, who was a central figure in the Christianization of the Congo Basin, the mission served as more than just a place of worship. It functioned as a crucial hub for education and healthcare in what was then a remote and difficult-to-reach region. The architecture of the site features characteristic brick buildings constructed by the fathers in collaboration with the local community. Historically, Boundji played a vital role in educating the first generations of Congolese intellectuals and administrative officials. The Old Boundji Mission is a historic site that can be viewed from the outside. Interior access may only be possible on special occasions or by arrangement.
