Boundji is a historically rich small town in the Cuvette Department of the Republic of the Congo, located near the Alima River. The town is primarily known for its religious significance, as the Saint-Benoît Catholic mission was founded here in 1900, making it one of the oldest in the north of the country. Consequently, Boundji developed early on as a major center for education and evangelization in the region. Today, the local economy is mainly based on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale trade. Despite its modest size, the town houses several schools and religious institutions that play a central role in social life. The town's architecture still bears traces of its colonial missionary history. Due to its proximity to the modernized city of Oyo, Boundji benefits indirectly from regional infrastructure development. Residents maintain traditional customs closely linked to the rhythms of the river and the surrounding savanna and forest landscape. Boundji remains a quiet yet culturally significant location in the heart of the Cuvette region.
