💡 Tips
- Since Tiko is in the Anglophone region, you will get by much better with English or Pidgin English than with French.
- Wear breathable cotton clothing, as the proximity to the coast and plantations creates very high humidity.
- During the rainy season, the market often turns into a mud pit-sturdy, water-resistant shoes are a must.
- The city often serves as a transit point; negotiate prices for taxis to Buea or Limbe before departure at the motor park.

Tiko sits in the Anglophone Southwest Region on the Wouri estuary across from Douala and, with about 90 000 inhabitants, is one of Cameroon's most important port and plantation towns. The Cameroon Development Corporation, the country's second largest employer, runs vast banana, palm-oil and rubber plantations around Tiko that remain the city's economic engine. Tiko port mainly handles banana exports, while its eponymous airport is one of the oldest in Cameroon. Highlights include the bird-rich mangroves of the Wouri estuary, the historic CDC administration buildings in British colonial style and Mount Cameroon views inland. The population is Anglophone Mokpe, Bakweri and Bafaw, with large Bamiléké and Igbo communities. The humid tropical climate with a long rainy season and year-round warmth supports intensive plantation agriculture.
