Muyuka sits at the foot of Mount Cameroon in the Southwest Region, about 30 kilometres north-east of Buea on the edge of the CDC plantations. Its roughly 60 000 inhabitants are predominantly Bafaw, Bakossi and Mboko, joined by large Bamiléké and Igbo communities. The economy rests on banana, rubber and palm-oil plantations, supplemented by poultry farming, quarrying and timber extraction on the volcanic slopes. Muyuka lies on the Douala, Kumba railway line, which historically made it a logistics hub. Highlights include the nearby lava flows from Mount Cameroon's 1999 eruption, the Owe waterfalls and the bustling weekly Mile 14 market. The humid equatorial climate, with a pronounced rainy season from May to October, sustains dense tropical forest and ensures year-round fertile plantations.
