Limbe Wildlife Center (Cameroon)

Weather…

The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a globally recognized wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility located in the coastal town of Limbe, South-West Cameroon. Founded in 1994 through a partnership between the Cameroonian government and the NGO Pandrillus, the center is dedicated to the protection of endangered species, particularly primates such as Western Lowland Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Drills, and Preuss's Monkeys. These animals are often orphans rescued from the illegal wildlife trade or the bushmeat industry. Beyond direct animal care, the LWC plays a crucial role in environmental education, sensitizing over 50,000 visitors annually, many of them school children, to the importance of conservation. The animals are housed in semi-natural enclosures designed to encourage natural behaviors and provide a safe haven after traumatic experiences. The center works closely with local communities to develop alternative livelihoods to hunting. Situated at the foot of Mount Cameroon and near the Atlantic coast, the center is not only a sanctuary for animals but also a significant driver for ecotourism in the region.
