Kibira National Park is a protected pristine montane rainforest stretching along the Congo-Nile divide in northwestern Burundi. Covering over 400 square kilometers, it contiguous with Rwanda's Nyungwe National Park. This dense, high-altitude forest is one of the most important biodiversity hotspots in the country. It is home to several primate species, including chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, and baboons. With over 200 bird species recorded, including the great blue turaco, it is a premier destination for birdwatching. The park's rugged terrain features deep valleys, rushing rivers, and thermal springs. Exploring Kibira requires a guide and is best done on foot, navigating the network of trails that penetrate the deep forest. The dry months of June to August are the most suitable for hiking.
