Odžak Old Town
The Old Town of Odžak in northern Bosnia is primarily famous for its characteristic clock tower (Kapetanova kula), which has defined the skyline since the 19th century. The town's history is closely tied to the Beširević family, who governed the region as the hereditary captains of Odžak. The name 'Odžak' itself refers to a lordly residence or chimney, highlighting its significance as a local power center. During the Ottoman era, the town evolved into a major agricultural hub within the fertile Posavina region. Its architecture features a blend of late Ottoman styles and Central European influences, which became more prominent following the Austro-Hungarian occupation in 1878. Despite suffering damage during World War II and the Bosnian War, Odžak has managed to preserve parts of its historical core. Today, the restored tower stands as a symbol of the town's resilience and its long-standing tradition as an administrative and cultural center in the country's north.
