Pelagićevo is an agriculturally oriented municipality in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, situated in the fertile Posavina plain. The town is named after Vasa Pelagić, a famous 19th-century Serbian educator, revolutionary, and publicist who was born here. Geographically, the region is characterized by flat, water-rich terrain that provides good conditions for large-scale cultivation of wheat, corn, and sunflowers. A central attraction of the municipality is Lake Pelagićevo, an artificial lake of about 80 hectares, internationally renowned for carp fishing and as a recreation area. The municipality was formed in 1992 from parts of the pre-war Gradačac municipality and has since developed into a stable local economic center. Its proximity to the Croatian border and the Brčko District favors trade and cross-border exchange. Pelagićevo proudly preserves its cultural heritage through monuments and events honoring its famous namesake. The tranquil Posavina landscape invites visitors for fishing and rural tourism.
