Fort Embourg (Belgium)

Weather…

Fort de Embourg is an integral part of the first ring of Liège fortifications, built at the end of the 19th century to protect the city. It was constructed between 1888 and 1891 according to the designs of the famous engineer Henri Alexis Brialmont. The fort has a triangular layout and was built using unreinforced concrete, which was a technological innovation at the time. In the 1930s, the facility was modernized to meet the demands of contemporary warfare, with improvements made to its ventilation and armament. During World War II, the fort was captured by German troops on May 17, 1940, following intense fighting. Today, the fort houses a museum dedicated to the military history of the region, showcasing an extensive collection of weapons, uniforms, and equipment from both World Wars.
