Ourthe River (Belgium)

Weather…

The Ourthe is a striking tributary of the Meuse and one of the most scenically beautiful rivers in the Belgian Ardennes. It is formed near the town of Houffalize by the confluence of its two source streams, the Eastern and Western Ourthe, which flow from deep and rugged valleys. Along its approximately 165-kilometer journey, the Ourthe carves deeply into the region's hard limestone and shale bedrock, creating spectacular rock formations and tight meanders. The river winds through some of the most welcoming towns in Wallonia, including Durbuy, famously known as the 'smallest city in the world', and La Roche-en-Ardenne, which has impressive castle ruins. Ultimately, the Ourthe joins the Meuse in the city of Liège. Thanks to its moderate current and unspoiled natural surroundings, the Ourthe Valley is a premier destination for outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, and extensive hiking.
