Sorochanskiye Lakes (Belarus)

Weather…

The Sorochanskiye Lakes in the Ostrovets district form a unique chain of 14 lakes extending over 18 kilometers in the north of the Grodno region. This lake landscape was created approximately 12,000 years ago during the retreat of the last ice age and is now part of a state landscape reserve. The lakes are interconnected by small channels or the Stracha River and exhibit diverse ecological characteristics, ranging from deep, clear lakes to shallower, silting water bodies. The region is situated near the Lithuanian border and is renowned for its pristine nature and the variety of glacial relict plants. Historically, the area was used for local fishing, but today the focus is on eco-tourism and the protection of sensitive aquatic ecosystems. The Sorochanskiye Lakes are considered one of the most scenic examples of glacial morphology in Belarus.
