Lubcha Castle
Lubcha Castle is a significant testament to 16th-century fortification architecture, picturesquely situated on the steep banks of the Neman River. The originally wooden complex was transformed into a strong stone castle in 1581 by the magnate Jan Kiszka, and later passed to the powerful Radziwiłł family. To defend against enemy invasions, the castle once featured four massive towers and thick walls. Throughout its turbulent history, the building was severely damaged several times, most notably during the destructive Cossack uprisings in the mid-17th century. Today, only two imposing brick towers remain of the once grandiose complex, their Gothic and Renaissance elements still clearly visible. Since 2003, through an unprecedented nationwide civil society initiative, the castle is being gradually restored by the tireless efforts of Belarusian volunteers, determined to preserve this historical treasure for future generations.
