Nalibokskaya Pushcha (Belarus)

Weather…

Nalibokskaya Pushcha, located in western-central Belarus, is one of the most extensive continuous forest massifs in Eastern Europe, spanning the basins of the Neman, Berezina, and Islach rivers. This area of approximately 2,400 square kilometers is characterized by its enormous structural richness, ranging from deep pine forests on sand dunes to wet alder carrs and open river floodplains. Historically, the forest was an important center for glass and iron production, as well as a refuge for partisans during the Second World War. Today, its ecological value is paramount, particularly through ambitious rewilding projects. The successful introduction of free-roaming Konik horses, which help keep the meadows open, along with stable populations of bears, wolves, bison, and the rare Lesser Spotted Eagle, underscore the region's importance for European biodiversity.
