Klimavichy is a traditional town located in eastern Belarus, within the Mogilev Region near the Russian border. First mentioned in written records in 1581, it was originally part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania before being incorporated into the Russian Empire. In 1781, the town was granted a coat of arms featuring a golden bee, symbolizing the industrious nature of its people and the local importance of beekeeping. Klimavichy is widely known today for its historic distillery, established in 1897, which remains one of the largest spirit producers in Belarus. The town also hosts the 'Golden Bee' international children's art festival, which attracts participants from across Eastern Europe every year. Geographically situated near the Lobzhanka and Oster rivers, the area has a scenic landscape characteristic of the eastern plains. Despite facing challenges following the Chernobyl disaster, Klimavichy continues to thrive as a significant regional hub for industry and culture.
