Chavusy, located on the Pronya River in the Mogilev Region, is a small, tranquil town with a remarkably turbulent military past. During the 17th century, its strategic location made it a fiercely contested fortress during the wars between Russia and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth; for a brief period, it even served as the administrative center of an independent Cossack regiment. This martial history was echoed during World War II, when Chavusy spent nine grueling months at the very epicenter of frontline combat, resulting in its near-total destruction. Today, the carefully rebuilt town serves as a peaceful agricultural processing center, widely recognized for its state-of-the-art dairy industry and a newly constructed, impressive facility dedicated to biathlon and winter sports.
