Ordubad (Azerbaijan)

Weather…

Ordubad is located at the foothills of the Zangezur Mountains near the Aras River and is one of the oldest silk trade centers in the country. The historical core of the city has preserved its traditional architectural style. The so-called Ordubad houses feature inner courtyards and thick walls designed to mitigate the summer heat. The 14th-century Juma Mosque and the historical ice house (Buzkhana) are among the city's most important monuments. The settlement is known for its agriculture, particularly the cultivation of lemons and walnuts. At local markets, vendors offer spices, dried fruits, and traditional silk products. In the shade of the ancient plane trees (chinar), there are many teahouses where locals consume the famous Ordubad sweets. Ordubad can be accessed from Nakhchivan city by car or bus, with the 80-kilometer journey passing through impressive mountain landscapes. The most suitable time to visit is late spring and early autumn, when temperatures are well-suited for sightseeing and exploring the surrounding valleys.
