The Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC), located in the southern Armenian province of Syunik, is the flagship of the Armenian mining industry and one of the largest industrial enterprises in the country. Founded during the Soviet era, the combine became a cornerstone of the regional economy, serving as the largest employer in the town of Kajaran and the surrounding area. ZCMC operates one of the world's largest open-pit mines to extract copper and molybdenum ores. The extracted ores are processed locally in a massive concentration plant to produce copper and molybdenum concentrates, which are destined almost entirely for export. These exports are a vital source of foreign currency for Armenia, accounting for a significant portion of the nation's export revenues.
