Parz Castle (Austria)

Weather…

Parz Castle in Grieskirchen is an outstanding Renaissance complex known worldwide for its unique external frescoes. The facade of the country castle was decorated around 1580 with large-scale wall paintings depicting scenes from mythology and history. These frescoes are considered the largest preserved cycle of their kind north of the Alps, spanning hundreds of square meters. The complex consists of the older moated castle and the later-built country castle, which together form a harmonious ensemble. Following extensive restoration in the 1980s, the artworks shine today in their former glory. The castle now serves as a venue for exhibitions and cultural events that make use of the historical ambiance. The extensive gardens underline the stately character of the estate. It is a significant monument of Upper Austrian cultural history.
