Obergurgl is situated at an impressive 1,930 meters at the end of the Ötztal valley and is considered one of the most exclusive ski resorts in the Alps. Thanks to its high altitude, snow reliability is guaranteed from November to May, earning the village the nickname 'Diamond of the Alps'. Obergurgl is historically significant for the emergency landing of Professor Auguste Piccard in 1931 after his stratospheric flight, which is commemorated by a monument today. The resort gives top-tier tourist infrastructure with upscale hotels located directly on the slopes. In summer, Obergurgl is a convenient starting point for high-alpine hiking and glacier tours, while the modern 'Gurgl Carat' conference center also attracts an international audience. The surrounding 3,000-meter peaks provide a spectacular panorama. The journey through the entire Ötztal valley has numerous scenic highlights along the way, such as the Stuibenfall waterfall.
