Landeck is situated in the Tyrolean Oberland at the strategically vital confluence of the Inn and Sanna rivers. The town flourished at a historical crossroads of trade routes crossing the Arlberg, Fernpass, and Reschenpass. Landeck Castle, visible from afar and built in the 13th century by the Counts of Tyrol, towered over the settlement and served to control commercial traffic. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the town benefited immensely from the construction of the Arlberg Railway and the expansion of transport infrastructure, establishing it as the economic and administrative heart of the district. The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary is a prime example of late Gothic architecture in the region. Today, Landeck is a significant gateway for tourism in nearby ski resorts and national parks, as well as a site for textile and metal industries. Its alpine setting and steep slopes give the town a distinctive character.
