Zirl is a market town in Tyrol, located about ten kilometers west of the provincial capital Innsbruck in the Inn Valley. Geographically striking is its position at the southern end of the Karwendel foothills, dominated by the imposing Martinswand, which is known far beyond Austria's borders as a demanding climbing area. Zirl's history dates back to Roman times, when the Teriolis station was located here on the important Via Claudia Augusta. A significant historical testimony is the Fragenstein ruins, perched high above the village, which once secured the trade route. The Baroque Holy Cross parish church in the center impresses with its magnificent interior and architecture visible from afar. Despite its modern development as a popular residential area in the Innsbruck metropolitan area, Zirl has preserved its traditional character. The community is particularly known for its animated nativity scene tradition, attracting visitors from across the region during the Christmas season. Economically, the town is characterized by commercial enterprises and tourism, with outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling on the Inn Valley cycle path, and climbing in the foreground. Excellent transport connections to the Inntal motorway and the Arlberg railway make Zirl an important hub in the Tyrolean Oberland.
