Ötztal Nature Park (Austria)

Weather…

The Ötztal Nature Park in Tyrol covers a total area of 510 square kilometres and extends across the entire Ötztal valley from the valley floor to the glaciated high mountain regions. As Austria's third-largest nature park, it houses an extraordinary variety of alpine habitats, including 67 glaciers, extensive stone pine forests, and alpine moors. The protected area was established in 2006 to sustainably protect the sensitive high mountain nature while making it accessible to visitors. The Wildspitze, at 3,768 metres the highest mountain in Tyrol, is located within the park boundaries. Particularly significant is the Obergurgl stone pine forest, which is among the oldest and best-preserved stands in the Alps. Hikers can explore nature on over 1,600 kilometres of trails, with themed paths like the 'Wasserläufer' imparting knowledge about the hydrological significance of the region. The nature park is also an important partner for scientific research in glaciology and high mountain ecology.
