💡 Tips
- The Ötztal Inside Summer Card often provides free access to cable cars and buses; look into the included benefits if traveling in the summer.
- Book ski rental equipment and lift tickets online in advance during winter to save money and skip long morning queues at the ticket offices.
- To avoid the peak après-ski noise, book accommodation slightly outside the main strip or up in the Hochsölden area.
- The high altitude means weather on the mountain can change extremely rapidly; always bring layers, even if it's brilliantly sunny in the valley.
🍽 Food
The excellent hearty lunch after skiing, consisting of pan-fried meat and potatoes. Available at almost all mountain huts.
A sweet, shredded pancake traditionally served with plum roaster, well-suited as a shared dessert on the slopes.
Pick up some of this heavily smoked, cured bacon at a local butcher or deli along the main road.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Sölden's main street is packed with high-end sports shops selling top-tier skiing and hiking equipment.
Look for small specialty shops or weekly markets to buy local honey, schnapps, and mountain herbs to take home.
These gentle, flat paths along old water channels offer peaceful walks just slightly above the valley floor.

Sölden is the beating heart of the Ötztal valley and one of Europe's most famous winter sports destinations. Surrounded by three peaks over 3,000 meters, known as the 'BIG 3', it gives guaranteed snow and spectacular views from modern observation platforms. Uniquely, it features two accessible glaciers, the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach, allowing for skiing as early as autumn. Film enthusiasts head to the Gaislachkogl peak to visit the futuristic Ice Q restaurant and the '007 Elements' cinematic installation, which commemorates the filming of the James Bond movie 'Spectre'. Beyond the slopes, Sölden is renowned for its lively après-ski scene and the nearby Aqua Dome thermal spa for post-sport relaxation.
