Llogara Pass (Albania)

Weather…

The Llogara Pass is a high mountain pass in the Ceraunian Mountains along the Albanian Riviera, reaching an elevation of 1,027 meters above sea level. It serves as a vital geographic link between the Dukat Valley to the north and the Ionian coastal plains to the south. The pass holds significant historical weight, as it is the site where Julius Caesar marched his legions in 48 BC during his pursuit of Pompey. The winding road over the pass gives expansive vistas of the Ionian Sea and the distant island of Corfu. Established in 1966, the surrounding Llogara National Park protects dense forests of black pine and Bosnian pine, some of which are centuries old. The pass is also internationally recognized as a premier location for paragliding due to its reliable thermal winds. It acts as a major climatic divide between the continental interior and the Mediterranean coastal zone.
