Established in 1966, the surrounding Llogara National Park protects dense forests of black pine and Bosnian pine, some of which are centuries old. The pass is also internationally recognized as a premier location for paragliding due to its reliable thermal winds. It acts as a major climatic divide between the continental interior and the Mediterranean coastal zone.

Visiting
Llogara Pass is a public road open at all times; you can stop at viewpoints to enjoy the scenery. The entire pass area is freely accessible and suitable for short hikes.

The pass is open 24 hours as it is a public road. The best time to visit is during daylight to fully appreciate the views.

Photography is excellent from the viewpoints; a tripod can be set up in the parking area. Wide-angle lenses best capture the dramatic coastal perspective.
Time needed
Allow about one to two hours for a break with photo stops and a short hike along the pass. To climb the surrounding peaks, you need half a day.

Getting there
The pass lies on national road SH8 between Vlorë and Sarandë, easily reachable by car. There is no direct public transport to the pass, but buses serve nearby towns.

Drive carefully in fog - visibility can suddenly worsen. Warm clothing is advisable even in summer as it can be windy at the top.
