Himarë

In the morning, we witness the coast's dramatic side as rain hits the Ionian Sea. At noon, we find shelter in Cyclop’s Cave, where the rocks provide a natural roof. Afternoon is spent walking along grey pebble beaches while the misty spray refreshes the air. In the evening, we retreat to the cozy, covered cafes of the center, enjoying the rhythmic sound of the rainfall.

Winter mornings in Himarë are crisp and clear, perfect for a solitary stroll along the deserted shore. At noon, the mild Mediterranean sun warms the rocks near Cyclop’s Cave. Afternoon is for enjoying the silence of the empty Marachi and Akacia bays. As the sun sets around 17:00, we end our day early with a hot drink overlooking the scenic Potami beach.

Start with a refreshing morning breeze right at Himarë Beach before riding your bike uphill to immerse yourself in deep local history. Midday brings you to the majestic ancient ruins of Himarë Castle and the profoundly serene Church of all Saints perched on the hill. In the afternoon, cruise down comfortably to the expansive Livadhi Beach for a well-deserved, cooling swim in the vivid blue water. Evening wraps up beautifully at the secluded Aquarium Beach, a perfect hidden gem completely embraced by wild natural rocks.

The bike tour starts cautiously on the wet roads by the beach. At noon, we pedal up the hill to the castle, where ancient walls offer some shelter. Afternoon is spent exploring church ruins in the drizzle before descending to secluded bays. Despite the rain, the ride is refreshing, but the slippery paths require maximum concentration at every turn.

A clear winter day is perfect for the steep ride to the castle, as the cool air makes the physical exertion much easier. At noon, we enjoy the panoramic view of the deep blue, calm sea. Afternoon is for cycling to the empty Livadhit and Aquarium beaches, where the winter sun creates a peaceful vibe. We plan our return before 17:00 to avoid riding in the freezing darkness.

By car, we explore the mountain regions around Himarë while mist swirls mystically around the peaks. At noon, we visit the castle, the car taking us right to the gate so we stay dry. In the afternoon, we drive along the coastal road, watching the churning sea from the warmth of the car. We end the evening at a viewpoint, listening to the soothing sound of rain on the car roof.

In winter, the car provides comfort for visiting the distant viewpoints of Athalit without the biting wind. At noon, we explore the castle ruins in the bright but cool sunshine. Afternoon is for a relaxed coastal drive to discover deserted bays. Since it gets dark at 17:00, we rely on our headlights for the winding mountain roads back to the hotel.
