Lascano, located in the Rocha Department, is often referred to as the 'Capital of Rice' in Uruguay. Founded on March 12, 1876, by Francisco Fernández Laviña, the city has developed into a crucial center for the agro-industrial sector. Its location on a fertile plain, irrigated by the Cebollatí River and its tributaries, provides well-suited conditions for large-scale rice cultivation, which dominates the local economy. Besides rice, cattle farming and the cultivation of soybeans and corn are also of economic importance. The city has a well-developed infrastructure to support agriculture, including large rice mills and silos that define the urban landscape. Lascano is situated at the junction of National Routes 15 and 14, acting as an important transportation hub for agricultural products. Despite its agrarian character, Lascano provides modern services and has a growing population. The city's culture is deeply rooted in rural traditions, with annual festivals celebrating the harvest and gaucho culture, such as the famous 'Festival del Arroz'.
