Shatsk National Nature Park (Ukraine)

Weather…

Shatsk National Nature Park is located in the far northwestern corner of Ukraine in the Volyn region, near the borders with Poland and Belarus. Established in 1983, the park was created to protect a unique group of over 30 natural lakes. The most famous and largest is Lake Svityaz, often called the "Ukrainian Baikal" because it is the deepest lake in the country, reaching 58.4 meters, and is known for its incredible water clarity. The landscape is characterized by extensive pine and birch forests, marshes, and wet meadows that provide habitat for many rare plant and animal species. Since 1995, the park has been recognized as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, and since 2002, it has been part of the UNESCO "West Polesie" Transboundary Biosphere Reserve. It serves as a vital breeding and stopover site for numerous migratory waterbirds traveling between Europe and Africa. For visitors, the park gives diverse opportunities for recreation, from hiking and birdwatching to various water-based activities.

🎒
What to bring
In addition to swimwear for Lake Svitiaz, you should definitely bring effective insect protection, as the proximity to the lakes attracts many mosquitoes. Binoculars for bird watching and comfortable shoes for forest walks are also highly recommended.

Parking
In the town of Shatsk and near the main beaches of Svitiaz Lake, there are numerous, partly paid parking spaces. During the summer months, however, these can fill up quickly, so arriving early or using parking spaces at accommodations is advisable.
