The Bug's Guard National Nature Park was established on April 30, 2009, in the Mykolaiv Oblast to protect the pretty canyon of the Southern Bug River. The region is characterized by massive granite outcrops that are over two billion years old, forming spectacular rapids and deep gorges. Geographically, the area represents an oasis of biodiversity in the arid steppe zone of southern Ukraine, with numerous endemic plant species. Historically, Bug's Guard is inseparably linked to the history of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, who maintained fortified camps (gards) here and used the rapids for defense. The flora includes rare species such as the Southern Bug broom, while wildlife is represented by numerous birds of prey and reptiles. National Nature Park Bug's Guard is located along the Southern Bug River and is accessible via Pervomaisk or Mykolaiv, with the village of Myhiya being a key entry point. Well-maintained roads lead near the river valley, where visitors can reach the impressive granite canyons and rapids.
