South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant (Ukraine)

Weather…

The South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, located near Yuzhnoukrainsk, is a vital component of the Ukrainian energy system and one of the most powerful power plants in the country. It operates three VVER-1000 pressurized water reactors with a total installed capacity of 3,000 megawatts. The plant is part of the South Ukraine Energy Complex, which is unique in its combination of nuclear power, hydroelectric power, and pumped-storage technology. Since its commissioning in 1982, it has reliably provided electricity for the southern regions and the national power grid. In recent years, extensive modernization measures have been carried out to increase operational safety and extend the reactors' lifespans. The plant plays a key role in diversifying fuel supplies by successfully utilizing fuel assemblies from international manufacturers such as Westinghouse. Yuzhnoukrainsk was built as a satellite city specifically for the plant's employees and is closely linked to its economic success. Today, the facility meets the highest international safety standards set by the IAEA.
