Hadiach is a historic city situated on the banks of the Psel River in the Poltava Oblast of central Ukraine. First mentioned in historical records in 1634, it rose to prominence during the Cossack Hetmanate as a strategic administrative and military center, occasionally serving as the residence of the hetmans. In 1658, the significant Treaty of Hadiach was signed here, which aimed to transform the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth into a tripartite state including the Duchy of Ruthenia. The city is also a major site of pilgrimage for Hasidic Jews, as it contains the burial place of Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. Economically, Hadiach developed as a hub for the food industry and agricultural processing, particularly known for its high-quality cheese production. Despite its relatively small population, the city preserves a rich architectural heritage and maintains its role as a regional cultural focal point. The city's historical importance is complemented by its natural setting, making it a unique destination that blends history, religion, and industry.
