Mount Ararat (Turkey)

Weather…

Mount Ararat (Ağrı Dağı) in extreme eastern Turkey is the highest peak in the country, standing at 5137 meters above sea level. Ararat is a dormant, snow-capped volcano consisting of two main peaks: Greater Ararat and Lesser Ararat (3896 meters). The mountain gained worldwide fame through the biblical tradition which identifies it as the resting place of Noah's Ark after the Great Flood. This religious significance has made the mountain a target for numerous expeditions searching for the Ark's remains. Geographically, it is located near the borders of Turkey, Armenia, and Iran, giving it significant geopolitical importance. The first recorded European ascent was achieved in 1829 by Friedrich Parrot. The harsh climate and permanent glaciers at the summit present major challenges for mountaineers. For Armenian culture, Ararat remains a central national symbol, even though it is situated within Turkish territory today. The surrounding plateau hosts a variety of flora and fauna and is part of a national park designed to protect this unique alpine landscape.
