Yerevan Thermal Power Plant (Armenia)

Weather…

The Yerevan Thermal Power Plant, located in the southern part of Armenia's capital, is one of the most modern and efficient power generation facilities in the country. The original Soviet-era plant was replaced in 2010 by a state-of-the-art combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) unit, built with financial assistance from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. This modernization significantly increased the plant's efficiency and reduced its environmental impact. The plant operates primarily on natural gas imported from Iran and Russia and has an electricity generation capacity of around 271 megawatts. In addition to producing electricity, the plant also plays a vital role in providing district heating for the city of Yerevan. Its ability to produce both power and heat (cogeneration) makes it an integral part of the urban infrastructure. The plant's strategic location in the capital ensures a stable power supply to the country's main economic and population hub, contributing critically to Armenia's energy security.
