Mount Sourou (Togo)

Weather…

Mount Sourou, standing at approximately 918 meters, is one of the highest peaks in the Centrale Region of Togo. It is located in the western part of the country, near the border with Ghana, and is integrated into the Fazao-Malfakassa National Park. The massif is characterized by its steep slopes and deeply incised valleys formed by the erosion of the Mo river system. The vegetation ranges from dense tropical dry forests in the valleys to open grassy savannahs on the ridge tops. Geologically, Mount Sourou consists predominantly of sandstone and quartzite from the Voltaian plateau. The area is ecologically highly sensitive, hosting rare wildlife such as primates and numerous endemic bird species. Due to its location within the protected area, the mountain is largely uninhabited, yet it serves as a crucial watershed for the surrounding agricultural lands in the plains.
