Eluanbi Lighthouse (Taiwan)

Weather…

The Eluanbi Lighthouse is situated at the southernmost tip of Taiwan within Kenting National Park and stands as one of Asia's most iconic maritime landmarks. Completed in 1883 by the Qing Dynasty, it was built to safeguard international shipping in the treacherous waters surrounding Cape Eluanbi. Due to frequent raids by local indigenous groups during its construction, the lighthouse was uniquely designed as a fortified structure, featuring a moat and defensive walls with gun loopholes, making it a rare 'armed lighthouse.' Although it was heavily damaged during World War II, it was subsequently rebuilt and modernized. Its powerful light, visible for up to 27 nautical miles, earned it the nickname 'The Light of East Asia.' Today, the brilliant white tower is a national symbol and a popular destination for visitors exploring Taiwan's rugged southern coastline.
