What is this place?
The Linyuan Petrochemical Park in southern Taiwan is one of the most important centers for petrochemical production on the island. It houses several refineries and chemical plants that supply raw materials for Taiwan's plastics, textile, and electronics industries.
Visiting
For safety reasons, public access to the park is generally not permitted. From the surrounding roads and the nearby Kaohsiung harbour, however, one can see the impressive industrial backdrop with its tanks and facilities.
Where to view it
A good viewpoint is the coastal road south of the park, from where you can see the extent of the petrochemical installations along the shore. The observation platform at Kaohsiung harbour also gives a wide view of the industrial area.

In the surrounding shops and markets of Linyuan, direct products from the park are hardly found, as the raw materials go into industry. However, plastic goods and household chemical products from local production are sold in the town and neighboring communities.
