Dabajianshan
Dabajianshan is one of the most iconic mountains in Taiwan, located in the northern section of the Central Mountain Range within Shei-Pa National Park. Renowned for its near-vertical, barrel-like shape, the peak reaches an elevation of 3,492 meters. Geologically, it is composed of highly resistant sandstone and slate, which have survived millions of years of erosion to form its characteristic isolated tower. Together with the nearby Xiaobajianshan, it forms a pair of striking rock formations known as the 'Twin Peaks.' To the indigenous Atayal and Saisiyat peoples, Dabajianshan is a sacred mountain, revered as the ancestral birthplace of their tribes; consequently, standing on the actual summit is now prohibited out of cultural respect. The mountain is a key feature of the 'Holy Ridge' trekking route, famous for its dramatic alpine scenery. Its unique silhouette is immortalized on the Taiwan 500-dollar banknote, cementing its status as a national natural landmark.
