💡 Tips

  • Make use of the 'Anniviers Liberté Pass', often included with your accommodation in summer, which gives you free travel on cable cars and post buses throughout the valley.
  • Take the cable car up to Sorebois. From there, you get a dramatic panoramic view of the surrounding 4000-metre peaks, including the Weisshorn and Zinalrothorn.
  • The weather in the high Alps can change very quickly. Always check the forecast before setting out and be prepared for all conditions, even on short hikes.
  • Zinal is small and very popular with mountaineers. Be sure to book your accommodation and restaurants well in advance, especially during high season.
  • For a spectacular but demanding hike, follow the trail towards the Cabane du Petit Mountet, which has a close-up view of the high-alpine glacier world.

Situated at 1675 meters at the head of Val d'Anniviers, Zinal is a true paradise for alpinists. The village is surrounded by the 'Imperial Crown' (Couronne Impériale), a chain of five 4000-meter peaks, including the Weisshorn and Zinalrothorn. In summer, Zinal serves as a starting point for demanding high-altitude tours and hikes to the Zinal Glacier. A unique winter highlight is exploring the interior of the glacier when the ice caves are safely accessible. The Zinal ski area has been connected to Grimentz by cable car for several years, creating one of Switzerland's most attractive freeride regions. The village has preserved its original character with old barns and houses built of wood and stone. Culinary offerings are dominated by hearty alpine dishes like fondue and local dried meat specialties. The best time to visit is mid-summer for mountain hiking or late winter for excellent snow conditions. Access is via Sierre by bus through the entire Val d'Anniviers to the end of the road.
