  • In summer, the SaastalCard (often included with your accommodation) gives you free or heavily discounted use of most cable cars and public transport in the valley.
  • Visit Mittelallalin for year-round skiing and the world's highest revolving restaurant. Go early in the morning for the clearest views.
  • You can see and feed tame marmots on the Spielboden & Plattjen hiking trails in the summer. Buy special nuts locally.

Saas-Fee, often called the 'Pearl of the Alps,' is situated in a dramatic high-altitude valley at 1,800 meters in the Valais region. The village is entirely car-free and has carefully preserved its traditional Valais charm, evident in the historic wooden granaries (stadel) perched on stone stilts. It is encircled by thirteen peaks exceeding 4,000 meters, including the Dom, the highest mountain located entirely within Switzerland. Saas-Fee is a year-round destination. During the winter and even in the height of summer, the Fee Glacier provides excellent conditions for skiing. Visitors can ride the Metro Alpin, the world's highest underground funicular, to Mittelallalin at 3,500 meters, home to the world’s highest revolving restaurant. A unique highlight is the chance to interact with tame marmots at Spielboden, which are often friendly enough to be fed by hand. In summer, the resort provides over 350 kilometers of hiking trails and challenging routes for alpinists. Local gastronomy is a treat, featuring Valais specialties like raclette and dried meats. Access is typically via post bus from Visp. The best time to visit is during winter for snow-sure skiing, or in July and August for high-altitude hiking and glacier tours.
