Val Poschiavo is a southern alpine valley in the Canton of Graubünden, extending from the Bernina Pass to the Italian border near Tirano. It is one of the Italian-speaking regions of Switzerland and is characterized by a massive elevation difference of over 1800 meters within a short distance. The valley is drained by the Poschiavino river and hosts Lake Poschiavo at an altitude of 962 meters. Historically, the valley served as a crucial route for alpine transit, which is reflected in the architecture of its main towns, Poschiavo and Brusio. The Bernina Railway, which traverses the valley, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2008 and is famous for the circular viaduct in Brusio. Agriculturally, the region is known for its organic production, with nearly all farms operating under bio standards. Culturally, Val Poschiavo blends alpine traditions with Mediterranean influences.
