Tarajalejo, located on the southern coast of Fuerteventura, is an appealing village that has retained its authentic fishing village character. Unlike the island's major tourist hubs, Tarajalejo gives a quiet and serene atmosphere. Its main attraction is the more than one-kilometer-long beach of fine, dark volcanic sand that slopes gently into the clear Atlantic waters. The beach is well-protected from strong winds, making it convenient for families and for relaxed swimming. The village center stretches along the seafront promenade, where you'll find a selection of restaurants and cafes. Here, you can enjoy fresh fish and seafood caught daily by local fishermen, as well as traditional Canarian dishes like 'papas arrugadas' with 'mojo' sauce. Tarajalejo is also a good base for water sports such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. For nature lovers, the surrounding area has opportunities for hiking and cycling to explore Fuerteventura's unique volcanic landscape. Getting to Tarajalejo is straightforward. Fuerteventura's international airport (FUE) is about a 45-minute drive away. Renting a car is recommended to have the flexibility to explore other parts of the island. There are also public bus services connecting Tarajalejo to the airport and other key locations. Thanks to the mild climate of the Canary Islands, Tarajalejo is a year-round destination. The warmest months are from June to October, but even in winter, the temperatures are very pleasant, good for a relaxing holiday.
