- The imposing statues of the Guanche kings on the waterfront are a must-see and offer a great backdrop for photos.
- Be cautious of the waves and currents at the black sand beaches, as the Atlantic can be quite powerful here.

Candelaria is the religious heart of Tenerife and a site of immense spiritual significance. The town is world-renowned for the Basilica of Candelaria, dedicated to the patron saint of the Canary Islands. Standing proudly along the waterfront are nine monumental bronze statues of the Guanche kings (Menceyes), honoring the island's indigenous ancestors. Beyond its sacred allure, Candelaria has a welcoming seaside promenade, unique volcanic black sand beaches, and a relaxed Canarian vibe that feels authentic and distinct from the busy resorts in the south. Visitors can stroll through the scenic old town streets and enjoy freshly caught seafood in local waterfront restaurants. The town also serves as a great gateway for exploring the nearby hiking trails leading toward Mount Teide National Park. Access is easy from either of Tenerife’s airports via rental car or bus. Thanks to the mild climate, it is a year-round destination, but Candelaria is particularly animated in August during the major festival honoring the Virgin. Don’t miss out on trying the local 'Papas arrugadas' with mojo sauce.
