Slovenske gorice (Slovenia)

Weather…

Slovenske gorice is the largest hilly region in Slovenia, located in the northeastern part of the country between the Drava and Mura rivers. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills that are extensively used for viticulture and various forms of agriculture. Geologically, the area is composed of Tertiary deposits, resulting in highly fertile soils. Its highest elevation is the Grmada peak near Maribor, standing at 462 meters. The region is bisected by the Pesnica Valley into a northern part (Gradiščansko) and a southern part (Ptujsko-Središkansko). The area is famous for its rich cultural history, seen in numerous churches, castles, and traditional wine cellars. The city of Ptuj, one of Slovenia's oldest settlements, lies on the southern edge of these hills. Slovenske gorice is also a key destination for tourism, particularly wine tours and cycling, as its road network connects many small villages and scenic viewpoints.
